PhD Certificate in Scientific Computing

ICSE administers a graduate certificate in Scientific Computing as part of the Rackham PhD program. The graduate certificate provides an opportunity for students in any discipline of computational science and engineering at the University of Michigan to both broaden and deepen their expertise in the underpinnings of scientific computation. Certificate elements include:
  • Coursework in various aspects of scientific computing, such as HPC, data, etc.
  • PhD dissertation topic relevant to computational science & engineering
  • Participation in a monthly graduate seminar series.
  • Participation in an annual graduate research symposium with annual poster presentation, and oral presentation in the final year.
  • Access to HPC resources and user support at the Center for Advanced Computing in ICSE.
  • Opportunities for internships and visits to industrial labs and national supercomputer centers at NCSA, ORNL, LLNL, Sandia, and elsewhere.
